Stockholm nature adds a beauty to the old city! In this article, you get to go on a journey to explore the natural wonders of Stockholm. This is a city that beautifully balances urban life with pristine nature. Just like our Siem Reap adventure, Stockholm offers a unique blend of vibrant cityscapes and enchanting natural getaways. So, sit back and relax as you dive into the knowledge about the lush green heart of Stockholm’s nature.

Where to Experience Stockholm’s Natural Beauty

There are a few beautiful spots that are within the city. Stockholm nature makes the city feel more in tune with nature as you wander down areas and see the plants overtaking the area. Besides having these places, Stockholm is only about a 30-minute train ride from Tyresta National Park. If you visit this national park, you’ll be blown away as how engulfed you become in nature, and it makes it great for any city folk to be able to have such a place so close!

Skogskyrkogården (The Woodland Cemetery)

Our voyage into Stockholm’s nature begins at the serene Skogskyrkogården, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located just south of the city center, this enchanting woodland cemetery is a perfect spot for a tranquil stroll among ancient trees and beautifully landscaped gardens. The best time to visit is during spring when the cherry blossoms create a captivating pink canopy. I know, it may seem strange visiting a cemetery. However, when you visit here, it will feel like you stepped into another time where it’s calm and peaceful.

For a more extensive dose of nature, Djurgården Island is a paradise within the city. This lush green haven is accessible year-round and offers a plethora of family-friendly activities. With that in mind, you can take a stroll or bike along picturesque paths, visit the open-air museum Skansen, or explore the fascinating Vasa Museum. This area is known as the Stockholm nature, “green oasis”. You can find about 279 hectares of green here. Plus, it’s called the true “lung” of this capital city.

Vasa Museum

My jaw dropped as I stared in amazement at the gigantic wooden ship. The Vasa ship sank hundreds of years ago and had to be put back together. When I stared at it, I could see that they did a wonderful job making it whole again. My family and I wandered around the museum taking in the wax sculptures, the ship, and many other parts that sometimes would change what they had. If you learn more from videos, they have a room specifically for that. The opening hours and the price vary depending on what time of the season is. Check out Vasa Museet to learn more about the opening hours and prices.

Personal Experiences

I vividly recall a summer’s day in Djurgården, watching my kid run freely through meadows with other children. I could hear their laughter harmonizing with the birds’ songs. Once they were done running around, we enjoyed a picnic by the water, feeling the gentle breeze. Boats lazily drifting on the glittering bay as we took in Stockholm’s nature with every moment as we devoured our sandwiches. It’s a memory etched into our hearts that reminds us of the magical blend of nature and urban life in the city.
