As the world deals with the pandemic, many people feel alone. You might feel like you’re going stir crazy during that time. There are still lots of things to do even though the school is locked down. This list I made for you will help you relax and keep you busy while you wait for the days to go by. This time spent at home can help you in some ways. You can now work on all those unfinished jobs now that you have time.

1.     Go out in Nature or Balcony

Go outside near your house and look around. A nice hike can help you relax. If you don’t live near any outdoors, I suggest you relax in the sun on your patio or porch. Use the sun’s heat to keep yourself warm. Sunlight can also make you feel better because it gives you vitamin D. Start your day with a cup of coffee or tea and take it easy there. There are times when you can’t be outside, but you can still enjoy the light from the sky by going to a window inside. Check out my article that explains how hiking is a great way for social distancing.

2.     Pick up a Hobby Using the Internet

You might not have had time to play that instrument that’s been sitting in your closet gathering dust. The web is great. Youtube has videos that can help you learn how to play an instrument or do any number of other things. Or maybe you want to learn a different language. Some apps like Duolingo helps me with that. There’s also Babbel out there and Rosetta Stone. You can find videos and tutors online too.

3.     Watch a Movie or Binge Watch a Series

A good movie or TV show makes me feel better when I’m sad and down because of the lockdown. We can’t change the way things are now. It’s movie time, so sit back and enjoy yourself! With all of its choices, Netflix is a good one to have. A lot of people get lost on it for days. My favorite movies change all the time, but Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, or Moana always make me feel better. Just so you know, these two shows are not at all the same. The first one is grim and funny, and the second one is an animated story about a girl who has to save her island. Both are funny to me, but I like all sorts of pictures. Also, I’m an adult. These are some things you should do during a lockdown.

4.     Call up Some Old Friends or Family Members

A lot of people are just as bored as you are during the lockdown. Talk to your family or friends for a while. This will help you if you like being around other people and being alone is making you feel bad. At least there are phones and other ways to get in touch with people. You can also talk to other people on the internet. Jump on Whatsapp or try out the OLD way and write a letter. Then put it in your postbox and have it sent it in the mail.

5.     Work on your Cooking/Baking Skills

Now is the best time to make that cake you’ve been thinking of for a long time. You might also just want to learn new foods. Now time is on your side! When the school is locked down, this is a great thing to do. If you have any recipes sitting around, open them up and look through the pages. You can also find a lot of help on Youtube. Do not forget to record your new mixtures so that you can make them again!

6.     Workout or do Yoga to Put your Mind at Ease

My body wants to move when I’m inside. I’ve found that doing yoga or working out every day really helps! Being able to do these things helps me relax and lifts some of my stress. I’d say every day for at least 30 minutes. I like to use DownDog app.  It has someone that instructs you and will show you each move.  Plus, youtube can be used for so many things. You can find videos on there of great home exercises!

7.     Jam out to Music and Dance

Enjoy your time by listening to your best songs. Find a new dance move to learn if you like to dance. Move your feet to the beat and make up your own dance move, or use youtube. There, you’ll be able to find all kinds of new moves. Tik-tok app is another great place that gives you tips on learning new dance moves.

8.     Reflect on Yourself

Now is a great time to think about yourself in the past, then, and now. Are you content with where you are in life? Do you want to change some things about yourself? Now is the ideal time to choose what you desire to accomplish and become. When there is a lockdown, I think this is one of the best things to do. Once you find yourself, it’s so worth it.

When I worked on a mountain in Northern California for a few months without access to the internet, I thought about who I am. It dawned on me that I wasn’t the person I wanted to be. When I thought about my past, I saw how I was to other people, and I didn’t like that. It helped me grow, and it was the best thing I could have done for myself.

9.     Jot Down those Thoughts on Paper

Get a pen and paper and start writing down what’s on your mind. You can use this to talk about how you feel or just write down stories. One of my favorite things to do is write. I enjoy writing stories because they let me imagine anything and bring it to life. You might be someone who doesn’t show how they feel. Then you should write them down. Keeping it inside will only make things worse; you don’t want it to boil over.

10. Go out and Stargaze or Enjoy them from the Window

The only good thing about all this confusion is that it gives nature a break from people. The sky has become clearer because the smog in the air has been going down. There aren’t as many flights, and there aren’t as many people in the towns. Now is a good time to look up at the night sky. Look at the stars and maybe learn about the stories behind them. One of my favorite things to do is look up at the stars.

11. Start Reading a Good Book

Right now it may feel dark and sad, but reading a good book makes me feel better. You can find books that are just ready for you to pick them up online or on your shelf. A favorite of mine is The Alchemist. It’s a great book to help you see how things in life can connect by the choices made. Or check out the trilogy, Hunger Games! Those will take you on a journey filled with adrenaline and keep you wanting more!
