Discover The Best Fun Things to Do in Phnom Penh

The  buildings look pristine, covered in gold and I just thought of all the fun things to do in Phnom Penh. Buddhist statues covered the inside, where many can pray to them. There are two snakes with eight heads that led the way to many different kind of royal palace buildings. I was left in amazement.

Phnom Penh is a vibrant city full of culture, history, and amazing food. If you’re planning a trip to this city and looking for some fun things to do, you’re in luck! There are plenty of activities to keep you busy and entertained.

Fun things to do in Phnom Penh

In this bustling city of Phnom Penh, it still holds a bit of beauty. In the first day and a half in cambodia, we visited a temple, the royal palace, and a night market. These are just some of the fun things to do in Phnom Penh.

Visit the Royal Palace

The Royal Palace is a must-see when visiting Phnom Penh. This stunning building is a symbol of Cambodia’s rich history and culture, and it houses several beautiful temples, including the Silver Pagoda. You’ll also get to see the Throne Hall, where the current king still holds ceremonial events. This is just one of the many fun things to do in Phnom Penh.

Explore the Central Market

The Central Market is one of the largest markets making it one of the fun things to do in Phnom Penh and is a great place to shop for souvenirs, clothes, and local handicrafts. This bustling market is a great place to immerse yourself in Cambodian culture and to haggle with vendors for the best deals.

Take a Tour of the Killing Fields

While it may not be the most fun activity on this list, visiting the Killing Fields is an important part of Cambodia’s history. This somber experience will give you insight into the brutal Khmer Rouge regime and its impact on the Cambodian people.

Visit the National Museum of Cambodia

The National Museum of Cambodia is home to an extensive collection of Khmer art, including sculptures, ceramics, and paintings. This museum is a great place to learn about Cambodia’s ancient history and culture.

Walk By the Riverside

A leisurely stroll along the Riverside is a great way to relax and take in the sights and sounds of Phnom Penh. You’ll pass by several restaurants and bars where you can grab a bite to eat or a refreshing drink while enjoying the view of the Tonle Sap River.

Learn to Cook Cambodian Food

Cambodian cuisine is delicious and unique, and what better way to experience it than by learning to cook it yourself? Enjoy this as one of the fun things to do in Phnom Penh. Take a cooking class and learn how to make classic Cambodian dishes like amok, lok lak, and num banh chok.

Visit Wat Phnom

Wat Phnom is a temple located on a hill in the heart of Phnom Penh. It’s a peaceful oasis in the middle of the bustling city and is a great place to take in the stunning views of the city. You’ll also get to see the statue of Lady Penh, who is said to have discovered the hill on which the temple now stands.

Once the sun dipped down, nightlife began. My haggling skills on prices was becoming better. The common way to travel is by tuktuk. When it came to getting a ride bartering on the price was necessary.

The night market lies by a river. People crowded the area and several shops were side by side, leaving only a little room to walk by. I felt as though I was a cow in a herd. It was hard to stop and look at things with many people in front and back of us.

Music filled the air and someone began singing on a big stage. Rugs covered the ground in the middle of the food area. Some people were clustered in little groups on the rugs, enjoying the local food.

Phnom Penh, a City of Culture

In conclusion, there is a lot of fun things to do in Phnom Penh since it’s a city full of culture and history. Whether you’re interested in exploring ancient temples, learning about Cambodia’s history, or simply enjoying the local cuisine, this city has something for everyone. So pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable adventure in Phnom Penh and please be safe as you wonder there.

But an eerie feeling from  the town clung to me. It was a bad feeling, and it wasn’t subsiding. I was ready to leave. Throughout our travels in Cambodia, we had learned that Phnom Penh was the most dangerous place in Cambodia. Bag snatchers, thieves, and buying of people.

About Me

Misfit Wanders

I´m a kooky girl that likes to travel. I grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA. Then moved to Northern California for about 5 years. But now, it's going on 5 years living in Sweden with my hubby and our furbabies, plus our little boy and my mom has joined our crew! Over the pandemic time, it has been hard to travel. Thus, my travel blog had been at a stand still. I started going to a University and I had a baby. Now I'm on a different kind of adventure. But my family and I plan on traveling when we can still. Traveling is something I cherish. New adventures is what keeps me moving, that and a stubbornness. I have a weird sense of humor if you haven´t figured that out from my posts. My writing can be perplexing, but I like to tell stories, and the best way is from my own experiences. So sit back and relax, as you take a spin through my hikes or enjoy following my footsteps as I wander in different countries! Most of my writings will be focused on hikes and the outdoors in Sweden.
