The sun was going down in the sky. It looked a little risky to start our hike up Pulpit Rock in Norway right now, since the trailhead says to start earlier. My husband was sure we could handle it, though. My husband, our dog, and I were going to climb this well-known rock! We wouldn’t let anything stop us! It wasn’t too hot or too cold because it was April. We also went when there weren’t a lot of people there. On our whole hike, we only saw a few other people. But we started our hike just before it got dark.

Packed for Hiking Pulpit Rock in Norway

The food and water for dinner were in one of the backpacks and two water bottles. Staying hydrated while hiking is essential. It’s important to stay refreshed while hiking. The food, first aid kit, and rain clothing were all in one backpack The other one was to hold a dog. We were excited to give it a try before taking our old dog on real long, hard walks. This one looked like a good one to test it on. Since this was our first walk of the trip, my body wasn’t quite ready for it. As we went up the mountain, though, my moves became more flexible very quickly.

I’m glad we had an Osprey backpacks with us. They last a long time and are very light. We found a backpack that can fit our Australian cattle dog and I was carrying it on my back. We planned to be able to take him up Pulpit Rock in Norway if he got tired. He is 12 years old. We gave it a try, and it worked great. We still got it to work, even though he might be too big for it!

Fast like a Bunny!

Even though it was getting cooler, the sun was still very bright. Trying to keep up with my husband has always been a journey. He hikes quickly, which I don’t mind all the time. The other times, though, I’d like to enjoy the whole walk to Pulpit Rock. This is especially true when we are in beautiful nature. Because I asked him to, he slowed down a bit, and we were not far away. Yay!

 Beauty Beyond Compare

The rocky paths were hard to describe. Their beauty made us feel like we were far from normal people. Even though some of the paths were made of stone steps, our dog would run back and forth with joy. We would tie him down if we saw someone hiking on the road. Besides that, he stayed close to us and didn’t stray off the road. He loved all the new smells and looked at us with eyes full of love and wonder. He began to pant happily as his tongue lolled.

Daydreamer while Hiking Pulpit Rock in Norway

Only one other person was going up the walk to Pulpit Rock in Norway at the same time as us. While going down to the base of the trail, a few groups went by us. They were smiling, and I could picture what the view would be like from the top. I felt cool when the wind blew in my face. Since I’m so tall, the lake would look like it’s a long way below.

Reality came back as my hubby yelled from a distance, “You coming?!”

I quickly pulled myself together and sped up to catch up with him and our dog. It was beautiful everywhere we went. The stone road went along one side of a stone wall, and the other side was full of plants. As we went up, the rocky path filled in around us. We are now on rock. It was hard, gray stone that had been used for a long time.

A Jawdropping View when you Hike Pulpit Rock in Norway

Seeing the view filled my eyes as soon as we reached the top. We were really high! Also, I’m scared of heights! I don’t want that to stop me, though! I was interested in seeing this. It felt like I was looking at a real picture as I got closer to the side. There was a ship in the lake below. The person on the boat came to mind. A sailor is getting ready to fight a troll that took her child. Ashes and swords were spread out on the deck. I got too close to the edge. I pushed myself back because I felt scared. I was feeling things in every nerve in my body. It was beating fast, but I told myself to calm down.

Best View of the Pulpit Rock

Once we were done at the top, my husband and I began taking pictures of the view. As the brave person he is, my man had to climb higher to get a better view of the Pulpit Rock. I told him no because I could only think of all the bad things that would happen if he climbed up the mountainside. I knew he wouldn’t pay attention, though. It hurt my heart to be up there with him the whole time. He took a lot of pictures of me and the area from that spot. They were amazing, and the best part was that he didn’t get hurt. Phew! We were lucky that there were only a few people at the top.

Going down was the best part of this walk. It was time for the sunset, which added color to the rocks and gray tones. It gave the place its last bit of light. The path was almost like a new one as it went down slowly. It was still light up in the sky when we got to the bottom. I think the whole thing took about four to five hours. Yes, the hike was worth it!
