Experience the Beauty of Norway’s Fjords

One of the main attractions of Norway is its magnificent fjords. These long, narrow inlets of water surrounded by steep cliffs are simply awe-inspiring. The country has more than a thousand fjords, giving you the chance for exploration and adventure. My hubby and I were blown away our first time in Norway with how spectacular the fjords are. You really feel little when you look up at the tall mountains.

One of the most famous and largest fjords in Norway is the Sognefjord, which stretches over 200 km (124.3 mi.) and is lined with charming villages and majestic waterfalls. It’s also called, “The King of the Fjords” since it’s also the deepest. This unforgettable fjord lies in Vestland county and is a must see!

The Geirangerfjord is another popular destination, known for its dramatic scenery and UNESCO World Heritage status. Visitors can take a fjord cruise or kayak through the crystal-clear waters to fully experience the beauty of these natural wonders. This is an epic place filled with mystery and fables.

In addition to their stunning beauty, Norway’s fjords also offer a range of outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, and fishing. The steep cliffs and rocky terrain are great for rock climbing and bouldering. Besides that, there’s the calm waters of the fjords that are perfect for fishing and kayaking. So, these are some of the unique things to do in Norway.

Discover the Charm of Coastal Cities

Norway’s coastal cities also offer incredible experiences for visitors seeking adventure and relaxation. From Bergen to Tromsø, these cities are full of charm, nature, and history. The coastal city of Bergen, for instance, is famous for its colorful wooden houses, lively fish market, and proximity to the fjords. Visitors can take a scenic train ride called Flåm train or hike up Mount Fløyen for panoramic views of the city.

Further north, the city of Tromsø is known as the “Gateway to the Arctic” and is a great spot for exploring the northern lights, dog sledding, and snowmobiling. During the summer, visitors can experience the midnight sun and take a boat trip to explore the surrounding islands. These are some of the fun unique things to do in Norway that can be found here.

Road Trip Filled with Waterfalls

When my hubby and I were on our road trip for hikes in Norway, we visited Bergen. What a wonderful place! It’s so inviting and lovely with all the nature and the beauty of the fjords. Our road trip involved taking the scenic route, which let us see waterfalls after waterfalls. It was amazing! Plus, we ventured to Stavanger and that’s another hidden gem. I highly suggest visiting Norway by car so you’re able to get to the beginning of the hiking trails and to see that amazing scenic route with waterfalls. From hikes through the country’s lush forests to kayaking along its pristine coastlines, the options are endless. Adventurers can choose from a plethora of activities which let them enjoy the nature while experiencing some activity.

Take a Kayak and Explore the Fjords

Kayaking through the fjords is a must-do activity for any visitor to Norway. This is by far one of the best unique things to do in Norway. Not only does it allow you to explore the majestic cliffs and waterfalls that can only be seen from the water, but it also gives you a unique perspective of the country’s rugged coastline.

For those looking for a more challenging activity, Norway has some of the best hiking trails in the world. The Romsdalseggen Ridge hike, for example, is known for its stunning views of the Romsdalsfjorden and the surrounding mountains. If you plan on taking on this hike, you should be physically fit since the difficulty level is moderately to strenuous. On top of that, the distance is around 10-12 km (6-7.5 mi.). But this depends on the route you choose to take.

Besides that, there’s the famous Trolltunga (Troll Tongue) hike, which has an unforgettable beauty about it. It’s a hard and long hike, but well worth it! My hubby, our dog, and me took this on. When we hiked up the snow-covered mountain, our dog got to ride along in our backpack specifically made to carry dogs. He was so comfortable he fell asleep!

Another great hike that we ventured on was Preikestolen (The Pulpit Rock). This spot reminded me of a fantasy. It felt surreal when we made it to the square rock on top. What a beautiful and fun unique thing to do in Norway!

Misfit Wanders

I´m a kooky girl that likes to travel. I grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA. Then moved to Northern California for about 5 years. But now, it's going on 5 years living in Sweden with my hubby and our furbabies, plus our little boy and my mom has joined our crew! Over the pandemic time, it has been hard to travel. Thus, my travel blog had been at a stand still. I started going to a University and I had a baby. Now I'm on a different kind of adventure. But my family and I plan on traveling when we can still. Traveling is something I cherish. New adventures is what keeps me moving, that and a stubbornness. I have a weird sense of humor if you haven´t figured that out from my posts. My writing can be perplexing, but I like to tell stories, and the best way is from my own experiences. So sit back and relax, as you take a spin through my hikes or enjoy following my footsteps as I wander in different countries! Most of my writings will be focused on hikes and the outdoors in Sweden.
