Guided Tour

In order to learn more about the castle’s long past, you might want to think about going on a guided tour. There are English and Swedish-speaking guides who can show you around the castle for about 45 minutes. The tour entails a talk about the past of the castle and how it is used nowadays since it’s the home of the Governor of Uppsala County.

An audio guide is provided in a number of languages for people who would rather explore the castle on their own. This includes English, Swedish, and German just to name of few of them. Plus, it’s good to know that the audio guide is part of the entry price. Using it gives people a lot of knowledge about the history and architecture of the castle. If you have kids, then they can pulled into the stories and legends that make up the castle’s past. Royal Hall

The Royal Hall is one of the best parts of the house since this room used to be the most fancy in the house. Many royal feasts and parties would take place there. Plus there are beautiful frescoes in the hall that show scenes from Greek myths. On top of that, the ceiling is very detailed and has lots of lovely patterns and designs cut into it which is hard not to gawk at in amazement.

Knight’s Hall

The castle’s Knight’s Hall, which is the largest room and has an amazing collection of royal portraits and tapestries, is one of the best places for kids to visit. As the kids walk around the hall, they can pretend to be knights and princesses. It really gives a feeling of that era. This was by far my favorite spot. But that’s maybe because I’m a little kid at heart.

Uppsala Castle Treasury

The Treasury, which has a beautiful collection of royal jewels and regalia, is another must-see in the castle. You can look in awe at the crowns, scepters, and other precious items that Swedish kings and queens used to wear on their heads and bodies. For kids, exploring the Uppsala castle and going to the Treasury is a great way to learn.

As you walk through the castle, don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful views of the city below. From the castle’s high point of view, you can see for miles in every direction. So the views are truly stunning. In the distance on a clear day, you can see mountains.

The Past of Uppsala Castle

Uppsala Castle is pretty, but it’s more than that. During wartime, it was a fortress and strategic stronghold that was very important to Sweden’s military past. As you walk around the walls and towers of the castle, you can almost feel the weight of history pressing down on you. You can picture the soldiers who used to walk along these walls, looking out for enemy troops and getting ready to defend their country from attackers.

Uppsala Castle has a long and interesting history, but it is now a museum and cultural center where people can learn about Sweden’s rich cultural heritage. Throughout the castle, there are many shows and displays showing everything from weapons from the Middle Ages to modern art. The castle also holds events and performances on a daily basis, such as music concerts and plays.

Great for the Family

Kids can run around and play in the park and grounds around the castle as well as inside the castle itself. With that being said, the Castle Park is a great place for a lunch or a game of frisbee. Another great spot is the nearby botanical gardens since they’re a great place to take a slow walk. This area has lots of fun things for the whole family to do. It’s a fun day trip that includes history, nature, and maybe even games!

Uppsala Castle is a Must-See!

To sum up, Uppsala Castle is a real gem of Sweden. It’s a beautiful castle that’s full of history and culture. Anyone can enjoy Uppsala Castle, whether they are interested in history or just want to see a beautiful and exciting place. My go to is Safety Wing since one adult covers up to two kids 10 years old and younger. Since I have a 2.5 year old, this works great for me.
