There’s something undeniably magical about winter holidays in Europe. The chill in the air brings an invigorating energy, urging you to don your warmest attire and venture into a winter wonderland. The tip of your nose turns red from the cold, but everywhere you look, there’s beauty left from the snow.

From the snow-capped Alps to the delightful streets of Paris, Europe offers an array of warm destinations for winter holidays in Europe. Let’s take a journey through these enchanting locations that are not only delightful but also eco-friendly, which is my favorite!

A Symphony of Sights and Sounds

Winter holidays in Europe transforms into a snowy paradise during this time. The scent of freshly baked pastries wafts through the air as charming streets become adorned with festive decorations. With that, the twinkling lights create a dreamy atmosphere, while the locals give a welcoming warmth, making it a delightful environment for all.

Personally, when I see all the lights glimmering, I turn into a little kid, and I fill up with a giddiness inside! While my son and I ventured to several winter markets, an excitement engulfed me. I felt like I was being a kid right next to my little one! We’ve gotten to visit a few winter markets in the lovely Sweden now. There’s the famous one, Mårbacka winter market and this was the place where the famous author Selma Lagerlöf had lived. Besides that, we went to Mariebergskogen for their winter market, which was amazing! They had Santa, a sleigh and many animals to see! Even with the cold, we had a fun time!

  • When you’re thinking about an eco-friendly retreat, then Europe is one of the best places. Some of the best areas to visit is the Azores, Portugal, offer a beautiful, serene escape. These islands boast stunning landscapes, fostering an eco-conscious mindset.

 

  • Additionally, since December 2019, the Azores have been recognized and certified by EarthCheck for being the world’s first island archipelago as a sustainable destination.
  • Similarly, Rovaniemi in Lapland is a green traveler’s paradise, where you can experience the thrill of the Arctic Circle and the Northern Lights without harming the environment. Which, the Scandinavian countries are known to have nature high on their list!

My favorite pastime during the winter holidays in Europe is being cuddled up by the fire with my son and a piping hot cup of tea! We giggle as we watch the fire and hear the crackle. Our soft blanket is wrapped around us as we look out the window and gaze at the peaceful snowflakes falling to the ground.

As I mentioned above, the Tivoli Gardens is one of the best places to experience the winter holidays with its blinking lights and family friendly fun. This amusement park’s Christmas markets even have eco-friendly crafts, delectable treats, and fun rides.

Besides that, the city’s cozy atmosphere, combined with delightful activities, makes it a warm and inviting destination for families. You can enjoy just walking the streets and feeling in awe by the decorations. Plus, some of the food is extraordinary!

Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh is in the festive season with its renowned Hogmanay Festival. Besides that, the city hosts several magical celebrations. For instance, they have outdoor concerts, traditional ceilidh dancing, and spectacular fireworks that are over the historic Edinburgh Castle.
