Embarking on a winter hiking escapade in the Swiss Alps is like entering a snow-laden fairy tale. One of the best winter hiking destinations since it’s so family friendly. The trails here are created to give both an awe-inspiring scenery and manageable challenges. The well-marked trails, such as the Grindelwald First Winter Hiking Trail, wind through pristine landscapes, offering stunning views of iconic peaks like the Eiger.

My time was filled with wonder and awe at the beauty. Of all the nature covered in snow. We found out that Grindelwald is a great hike for kids and ventured their with our little one! Such a fun time!

1. Grindelwald First Winter Hiking Trail:

    • Difficulty: Moderate
    • Length: Approximately about 6 km (3.7 miles) in and out
    • Time: 2 hours
    • Type: One-way trail

2. Engelberg Valley Trails

      • Difficulty: Easy to Strenuous
      • Length: over 500km (310 mi.) of hiking trails to choose from!
      • Type: Multiple Trail

    Now, Engelberg is a wonderful place to venture to. You can come here during any season and find an abundance of activities! Winter hiking is great! Plus, you can add skiing and any of the other winter activities. Kids love all the adventures that are waiting to be had here.

This gives you unforgettable views of frozen waterfalls resembling delicate sculptures. This eco-friendly destination beckons winter hiking enthusiasts, providing trails suitable for various skill levels. This makes it one of the best winter hiking destinations!

    1. Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) Trail:

      • Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
      • Length: Approximately 3.8 miles (6.1 km) round trip
      • Time: 3 – 4 hours
      • Type: Loop trail

    Hiking Pulpit Rock is a trip my hubby and I enjoyed! We haven’t taken it on during the winter. But that sounds beautiful in its own way. The downside is that it’s highly recommended to have a guide due to the snow. You can book a guide from Get Your Guide.

    2. Bergen’s Mount Fløyen:

      • Difficulty: Easy to moderate
      • Length: About 2.8 miles (4.5 km) round trip
      • Time: 1 hour
      • Type: One way

    Floyen is a mountain in Bergen that has one of the most iconic trains. Besides having that, there are a couple of trails spread out over the area. The most known one is near the train, which goes down to the town. Check out Visitbergen.com for more info! Many of the trails will be closed due to the weather.

     

    3. Geiranger Skywalk:

      • Difficulty: Easy
      • Length: Around 1.2 miles (2 km) round trip
      • Type: Loop trail

    The first time I saw Old Faithful, I couldn’t believe nature could do that! The biggest regular geyser erupts quite frequently, making it great to see!

    2. Fairy Falls Trail:

      • Length: About 8 km (5 miles) round trip
      • Time: Approximately 3-5 hours
      • Type: Out-and-back trail

    Fairy Falls Trail is such a lovely place that’s open year-round. When I ventured here, I was blown away with the beauty and how magical nature can be!

     

    3. Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone Rim Trail:

      • Difficulty: Challenging
      • Length: Around 11 km (7 miles) round trip
      • Time: Approximately 4 to 5 hours
      • Type: Loop trail

The trails have diverse difficulty levels that can be accommodating both families and seasoned hikers. I have not yet been to Scotland yet. But from my friends and from The Outlander, I have fallen in love with wanting to go there! It’s on my list of places that’s never ending!

        • Type: Out-and-back trail

      For the ambitious hiker, conquering Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles, presents a challenging yet awe-inspiring trek. The trail, though demanding, offers unparalleled views and a sense of accomplishment at the summit.
