When we finally got to Czech Republic, the plan I made for our trip made everything go smoothly. It can be hard to travel with a one-year-old, a husband, and a mom.
So, having a Czech Republic itinerary made our 8-day trip much more fun because we had a plan. I’m going to explain what we had in detail in this article so that you can try it too!
Car Rental is a Must with a Baby
Now, we had to rent a car since in Spain we ran into many problems regarding traveling with a little one. Because of this, we chose to rent a car for this trip so that we wouldn’t have to strap our one-year-old son with our arms in a car. Having a rental car also let us go to some of the places that we wouldn’t have been able to visit otherwise.
Some of these places had rocky roads and lots of wildlife all around them. As we sped forward in the car, the wisp of wind went by. Going out into nature has always been my calling, and it makes me feel calm.
First stop was renting a car at Prague Airport and we had it for seven days. Then, we took it back to the same place when our trip was over. Easy Peasy!
Traveling by Train
Now, a great way to travel is by train! If you plan on traveling in Europe, I suggest checking out Trainline since it works with 270 rail and coach companies and it’s in 45 countries in Europe. If we can, we try to take the train as much as possible. However, on this trip, it wasn’t happening because many of theplaces that we wanted to go to had no public transportation. So, car is was!
Czech Republic Itinerary: Day 1
Our arrival to this lesser-known country was a late one. So, we didn’t get to take in the area. But it was pretty quick and painless getting a car rental and beginning our journey to the hotel, Penzion Uno since the roads were smooth and there were only two lanes. Due to showing up late, there wasn’t much for traffic. After the flight, our bodies felt heavy from the travel and our little one couldn’t keep his eyes open. Luckily the hotel wasn’t too far from the airport.
First Night was at Penzion Uno
Since we had our Czech Republic itinerary, we had already reserved a room at Penzion Uno before we got there. So, this made it smooth and we were able to find a spot right in front of the long building that housed the place. When we went inside, I was amazed by the backyard small bar and wooden bridge over the water. It doesn’t look like much from the outside. But once you’re inside, it’s so much more! It looked nice and like a nice place to relax. The owner had stayed up late to wait for us, and even though he didn’t speak English, he seemed very nice and gave us a warm smile.
Another big surprise came the next day. The owner had a delicious breakfast ready for us in his bar, which is at the front of the building. There were tasty breads and cheeses with jam and butter. He even had some yummy eggs. It felt like a feast had just opened for us! Besides that, he was very helpful, even though we didn’t speak the same language. I really think this is a great place to visit! You can see it on Booking.com if you want to rent it.

Czech Republic Itinerary: Day 2
As we drove deeper into the Bohemian Paradise Nature Reserve, I could see beautiful nature everywhere. With that, tt took my breath away and made me think of a fantasy. The skinny stones were up high, like they were trying to reach for something. I thought things couldn’t get any better than seeing that. But I was so wrong! The clear beauty of Trosky Castle is something that you will always remember. It looks like something from a dream! If you do plan on seeing Trosky Castle, be sure to check the website first to make sure that it’s open.
Trosky Castle:
Bohemian Paradise nature reserve
The next day, our plans from the Czech Republic itinerarytook us to the unique Bohemian Paradise Nature Reserve. There, rocks stood straight up and showed how enormous they were with trees growing in between and on top of them. We went up even higher to the top with our little boy in our Osprey backpack. Once we made it to the top, the views were stunning. With the tall stones and thick green trees in the background, it felt like we had just stepped into a fairy tale. But alas, we didn’t have the time to wander as much as I would have liked to here.
Trosky Castle (Hrad Trosky)
I couldn’t believe how beautiful the remains of this castle were as we walked to it. They take good care of this castle, which makes it a lovely spot to visit. This is a great building to see if you’re interested in such things. After our tasty meal, we drove for one to two hours to get to this one-of-a-kind place. Click on website to find out more!
How Much Did It Cost?
The price was pretty low—about $6 USD per person. The walk through took about an hour and there are no trips with a guide. We even had time to take beautiful pictures of this place’s unmatchable beauty. In every direction, there are woods around this castle, making it a beautiful, private spot.

Ubytování Stará Apartment
Finally, the day ended at a beautiful flat, which these are common to rent for the day in Czech Republic. The owner of Ubytování Stará was very nice, and we had a wonderful time there. Even though he spoke very little English, we understood what he was saying with his hand gestures and from the picture that he showed us. In the photo he was with a delicious breakfast and asked us if we wanted breakfast. We eventually said yes when we understood him.
The next day he brought in so much yummy food. On top of that, he had understood that I’m a vegetarian. So, he brought us food trays of cheeses and other things that I could eat instead of having mostly meat. What a great way to start the day! What a great person with a genuine smile.

Schreckenstein Castle (Hrad Střekov)
You can’t miss the views from this stunningly beautiful castle ruins, which is known as Schreckenstein Castle or Střekov Castle. It stands tall on top of a rock with a view of the Elbe River, which makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time. In every direction you can see beautiful views of trees and grass.
In the 1400s, Střekov Castle was built. From that time, it was made to keep the waterway safe and collect taxes on the things that were being moved on the water. So, if you want to see an unforgettable castle, then you really need to see this! Even more so if you love anything that makes you feel like you’re in the dream world.
Visit their website to find out more about this lovely spot.
It costs about $5.50 USD for people, $4.50 USD for kids 6 to 15 years old, students, and seniors. Family groups, school groups, and groups of 10 or more can get save money. Find out more here.

Rozhledna na Skřivánčím vrchu Lookout Tower
This is at the top of Skřivánčím, where the views are amazing and make you stop and stare. But first you have to climb the metal stairs to the top, where the wind is more of a bother than a friend. Howver, it’s worth it. When you’re on top of the tower, it feels like it could fall over at any moment from the strong wind.
Since I’m scared of heights, I had to work up a lot of courage and then I was able to do it! We climbed this in about 20 minutes and stayed in this area for about an hour. Since they have picnic tables, it made it a great spot to have our small lunch while enjoying the view of the trees.
Experience Jezero Michal Lake in Sokolov
We were excited to go swimming in Jezero Michal Lake when we first saw this from a distance. Once we got closer, we saw that it was all blocked in. Since that’s the case, people have to pay to swim in the water. This is how things are here because there’s a lot of water that isn’t safe to swim in due to algae and germs. That means there’s money to be made if there’s clean water!
Stay at Hunting Lodge Vitkov
I was amazed at how beautiful this hunting cabin, Hunting Lodge Vitkov was when we pulled up to the driveway. With woods all around, it looked beautiful and made us feel like we were far from civilization. Their rooms are pretty nice as well. But I did have a bad feeling there, though. The owner’s wife never smiled and just looked at us. Plus, I didn’t like how I felt there. Being fully surrounded by nature got the best of my imagination. However, it was a great place with delicious breakfast!
This is in the Slavkovsky Forest in Huršková, which is 21 km (13 mi.) from Karlovy Vary, which is known as a spa city. There is free Wi-Fi on the site and a restaurant that serves traditional meals made with ingredients from nearby farmers. You can even sit outside with a beer and watch the stars from the small bar.
This place is know for hunting, hikes and great places to ride bikes. You can rent bikes at Hunting Lodge Vitko.
Czech Republic Itinerary: Day 4
Visit lookout Krasno
The road to this strange tower is nice, flat and well-paved. The Krasno tower shocked me with its beauty and strength once we turned the corner and saw it. The 25-meter stone tower looks even more like something out of a fairy tale because of the stairs that lead to the top are arranged in a spiral. It was built in the 1930s, during the Great Depression. Besides that, the views from the top are amazing!

Slavkov Forest Park, Chráněná krajinná oblast Slavkovský les
There are great trails that go around the lake and through the Slavkov Forest Park in this nice spot. Besdies that, this is a lovely place for a picnic or just to relax in the outdoors. Get away from the city for a while and come here.
This safe park is close to Karlovy Vary, making it ideal for people in that city. You can gaze at the fields, mountains, water spring, or different kinds of plants. On top of that, some of the paths lead to nature and historical sites that are worth seeing.

Conservation in Czechia
The nature trail Kladská
Follow the pretty nature walk. The warm springs of Mariánské Lázně are only 3 km (1.9 mi) away. If you want to relax, this is a beautiful place for that.
The walk begins at a wooden hunting lodge and goes through the peat bog national reserve. To get to Kladská Pond, follow the path as it winds through meadows, dense forests, and bogs. There are nice places to rest along this road, and it also turns into a boardwalk.

Stay at Apartmán U Kapličky
Once we arrived to another apartment, we learned that they had the key for us in a fancy way. It was inside this lock box on the side of the door and you need to enter a code. Then it opens, and the key is inside! Now this apartment only had the bathroom on the main floor, which had a cool breeze. However, the more we climbed up, the hotter it became.
Luckily there were skylights that could be opened. Besides that, there is a wooden beam close to the floor that adds a natural touch to the place. While I was in the bedroom, I looked up and saw the castle through the skylight. It felt cozy and amazing! That view is so pretty, especially at night! The view from Apartmán U Kapličky was the best of all the places we stayed on the trip. Plus, it’s a great place for kids since they had loads of toys for the little ones.

The State Chateau of Hluboká (Státní zámek Hluboká)
I usually picture a white castle standing tall when I think of a fairy tale with princes and princesses. That’s right, this building is that! Plus, this was the caslte that I could see through the skylight in that flat!
If you want to visit here, there are a lot of trips that are available. But you can go through most of the castle on your own, though.
Back in the day, it used to be a royal castle. Now, the Schwarzenberg family owns it and you can see paintings from the 16th- 18th century that are shown throughout the castle. There’s pottery, stained glass, and lights all over the building as well.
One of the most beautiful castles in Europe is this white castle. If you want to feel like a prince or a princess, you should go to this magical place.
Visit their website to reserve a tour since there are a lot of different kinds, and not all of them are always available.

Eat at Penzion Oregano Třeboň
We were hungry, and we didn’t want our child to be hungry. So, we found the Oregano restaurant, which had great pizza. There was outside seating in the shade of the tarps that were hung. This added to the mood of the place. It looked like a nice spot that gets busy. If you’re hungry and in Trebon, why not check this place out?
Check out the oregano restaurant (Czech only).

See Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul
This church was so huge that it made my mouth drop. It had a gothic feel to it and it’s very tall, with towers that are 84 meters high. This church here dates back to the 11th century and is in Brno. The Roman Catholic church is called “Petrov” in this area.
Besides that, it’s good to know that it’s an important part of Czech culture in Brno. Treat churches and other places with respect if you want to check them out. When we wandered inside, they still had mass and many were praying.
I felt like we were imposing, and we quickly ventured out again. Around the corner, we found the tower! To get to the top of one of the towers, you have to climb the twisting stairs. But it’s really cool up there! That said, it takes money to do that.

Stay at Hotel Rakovec
After a long day, time off is deserved. We found this lovely place that has a relaxing pool. It’s close enough that you can get to shops and restaurants pretty easily if you want to.
But the atmosphere here makies it feel like it’s away from all the other people. Our little one loved the pool because he was born as half fish (just kidding) even though he is only one year old. Find out more about the Hotel Rakovec here.

Czech Republic Itinerary Day 6:
Visit Macocha Abyss cave
The Macocha Abyss cave is a sight that you should see! Our osprey bag for babies was with us. However we were told that the cave was too small for it. So, once we went through it, we found out that wasn’t true at all. Oh well!
Before going into the caves, you can walk along paths that give you a great view of the area. You can also go further down and see the view from below. We enjoyed all the different points of view. I felt like a little kid when we got to walk around an explore. As my little boy watched from his perch in the backpack, I ventured around in amazement.
So, in order to get to it, you have to take a sky tram. As we went down, the view became very different. There were rocky sides all around us, and we could see a small tourist train below. While we waited to go into the cave, the three of us walked around the area, taking in everything. Our little guy was hungry, which made the trip a little rough (don’t forget to bring snacks for the kids). But luckily, I was a walking snack for my little one.
FYI: On the tour through the cave, boats are used since some of the cave have water. Before venturing down here, we had to pay above at the entrance and book our tour there.
We finally got to a great spot with a view of a cave opening that was full of plants. The whole area and the sides of it are covered with plants, which makes it feel alive. The tour lasted for about two hours and was in Czech because English tours are only given at certain times or when there are enough English-speaking people in the group. However, it was still fun to go through the cave and see it!

Drive to Roman Catholic Church in Kutná Hora
You have to see Saint Barbara’s Church! The outside is epic and makes me think of dark days and gloomy times with their gargoyles. It’s known as one of the most important Gothic churches in Central Europe. The church is named for St. Barbara, who is the patron saint of workers. This is because the silver mines in this town were said to have made it rich. This church was meant to be twice as big when it was first built. But there was less silver in the mines.
On St. Barbara’s website, you can find information about tours of this beautiful place.

See Sedlec Ossuary
The Sedlec Ossuary, also known as the “bone church,” is a Roman Catholic building where bones have been used to make art. This was one of the most interesting places we saw in the Czech Republic. The church wanted to expand. But when they started digging, they found graves with a lot of bones in them. Thus, they decided to use the bones as a remembrance and a piece of artwork throughout the church.
There are different tours to choose from. You can also go inside and look around on your own. Don’t forget to show respect, though. Some people were rude to the bone sculptures inside, so you can’t take pictures on the inside anymore. As you look around and learn more about the art, you’ll feel like you’re in a different place.
I was astonished to see it! The art that they made out of the bones. Plus, they explained why and had signs that explained what the pieces of art represented. My body vibrated with the magic of the place and I wished that I could share photos of the inside.
When we visited, there was a deal where you could get one ticket for the price of two churches. We were able to see the Sedlec Ossuary and the church of Saint Barbara in that deal! That being said, it’s always fun to find deals!

Stay at Elvíra Ubytování v Soukromém
It was nice here, and it felt like a neighborhood house. Each person had their own room with a bathroom and ceiling fan. But everyone used the kitchen room. So, it was like a community home.
You can also park your car in a closed-off area. Besides that, it was great for our family, and the beds are very comfortable. Go to Booking.com if you want to rent a room. We thought this was the best place on our whole trip while we were staying here. Plus, every room had air conditioning, which was amazing during our visit!

Czech Republic Itinerary: Day 7
On the last day, we spent time in beautiful Prague. The country’s center. This city is known as “the City of a Hundred Spires,” and its Old Town Square is an amazing splendor of a place. With its bright buildings, historical relics, and astronomy clock, this area will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Another must-see is Charles Bridge, which has statues of Catholic saints along the pathways where people can walk. Visit Prague.eu to find out more about the city.
Dripstone Wall at Wallenstein Palace and Gardens
It felt like a maze when we went into this garden. I could sense that it would be easy to get lost. At least, I think I could lose my way easily. You can walk down a number of different routes, and on each side, well-kept bushes grow high up to 10 feet. In the end of the route we took, it opens up to a fork in the road.
In one direction, there is a fountain, and in the other, there is a wall made of dripstone. There’s even a building with a figure inside it. While I wandered toward the figure inside the building, sculptures stood tall along the path. Each one had its own story. Our time was limited. So, we didn’t stay here for very long.
Herodotus is at the Dripstone Wall. As I looked at the Dripstone Wall, I got a bad feeling. A part of it is a cage. Which made me believe that they must have a pet in there. But I didn’t see anything while we were there. Something that I liked about this place was that it’s free to visit!
There was no charge for us to walk around the grounds or see the Dripstone Wall (only in Czech). So, if you want to enjoy the outdoors, this is a great place for that. Besides that, families and people who just want to be outside and look at art and nature would love this place.

Speculum Alchemiae
You can find Speculum Alchemiae, or the Museum of Alchemy, in a quiet place. Alchemists and artists from Old Prague have left their art in this museum. Besides that, this place has a workshop, a lab, a lot of old texts, and books. During the walk, which lasts for about an hour, you will go underground to the workshop and lab area.
Learn about the magic of elixirs and how to use a drink to make someone fall in love. This is one of the magical places you’ll see from the Czech Republic itinerary. These medicines can even be bought at the store that’s at the entrance. Many people think that Prague is one of the most spiritual and best places for alchemy because it has a powerful pull. Clementinum Library
In my heart, libraries have always been very important to me. I was thrilled when I learned about the Clementinum Library. My mom and husband watched our little one while I went on this tour by myself. As I climbed the winding stairs and learned about each floor, I wasn’t let down. I was stunned to learn more about the place.
After that, we went to the library. For us, it was closed off so that it could stay untouched. The library room was dark and beautiful on the inside. It was full of astronomy globes and wise books of all kinds. There was art all over the roof, which made it seem even more mystical. As I looked at the library in awe, I felt like I was in a dream. Some university students were the only ones who could come in and use some of the books. As long as they had it approved.
Once our tour group was done staring. in amazement, we went up one more flight of stairs and saw the Astronomical Clock inside. Find out how to book a tour to see these two amazing things here.
Prague Astronomical Clock
What a great thing to see and add to your list of things to do in Czech Republic! The tour to the Clementinum Library lets you see the inside of the tower where the insides of the Astronomical Clock are. There are three parts to the clock on the tower, which you can see.
There is a dial that shows where the sun and moon are, and there are Catholic saints on the sides of the clock. Besides that, there is “The Walk of the Apostles,” a show that happens every hour and features moving figures and statues, including one that stands for Death. The time is shown, and there are symbols that show the months of the year.
There’s a story about this clock in the area that is the city will be hurt if this clock is ever ignored and ends up being broken.
Charles Bridge
Take a walk down Charles Bridge and feel like you’re going back in time. On both sides of this beautiful bridge, there are statues of different saints. This stone arch bridge from the Middle Ages spans the Vltava River. In 1357, King Charles IV gave the order to start building the Charles Bridge. That’s when he put down the first stone, and the building was finished in the 1400s.
You can either walk to this and look around, or you can take a tour and learn more about it. You can book a tour on GetYourGuide if you’re interested.

Prague Castle
The Castle in Prague is where the President of Czechia works. It feels like it how I would think that it must have a long time ago, even though it was built in the 9th century. As we walked around the cobblestones, a band began to play and march. They came out of nowhere, and walked right by us.
Besides that, there are guards standing tall at the building’s gates. Within the gates, there’s a church and a nice pond.
Here you can book a tour of the Prague Castle! GetYourGuide also lets you book tours for groups or by yourself.

Stay at Plzeňská 465
When we got here, the owner helped us figure out how to open the gate to get inside. We parked our rental on the side street right outside the entrance for free. Now, I don’t like when someone pushes things onto you. That’s exactly what the owner kept trying to do. We wanted us to eat at his friend’s diner.
But aside from that, it was a nice place and our own apartment was great. My mom had her own room, and so did my husband, me, and our son. Booking.com lets you look at this room.
Czech Republic Itinerary Day 8:
Drop off Car Rental
Now that our trip through the Czech Republic was over, it was time to return the rental car. We were a little rushed, but we got there, and everything went well.
Essentials When Traveling to Czech Republic (Czechia)
The main language in this country is Czech, but a lot of people also speak German. That being said, if you speak English like I do, you might have trouble. That’s when Google Translate or Lonely Planet can help! For some reason, I like using an actual book to try to say Czech words properly. In the end of trying to speak Czech, I would have to point to the word(s) I wanted to say. So, having the book or Google Translate helped me tremendously.
Also, it’s important to bring a water bottle with you when you travel. More so if you don’t know how the water is in a place. It was fine in the Czech Republic, and I filled up my water bottle at the stops along the way.
Now, a car might be best if you want to get to places that don’t have transportation to the ares that you want to go to. So our little boy went on his first car trip in a different country! We went on adventures that let us get to places we wouldn’t have been able to get to otherwise. That’s why I think you should have a car in this country.
Besides that, being polite is the most important thing you can do. The people and ways of life here are very different from those in other places that you’re used to. Pay attention to who they are and how they live their lives. For me, one of the best parts of traveling to another country is learning about their culture and how different it is from mine. What are you waiting for now? Get ready for your next trip, and you’ll have memories that will last a lifetime.
