July 28, 2023 | Posted by misfitwanders | Adventures, Culture, Nature, Sweden, Traveling

The sun beamed down as we ventured through the mysterious artwork at Alma Löv Museum of Unexp Art. My eyes grew wide with every step as we walked through the forest. There’s artwork spread out throughout the greenery, making it feel surreal. In the village of Östra Ämtervik, Sweden, the Alma Löv Museum of Unexp Art stands as an enigmatic gem that challenges conventional perceptions of creativity and artistic expression.

About Alma Löv Museum of Unexp Art

The name Alma Löv comes from a mamma of 6 that was born as Alma Elvira Andrina Grönros. She had lived in Åland. In 1998 Marc and Karin Broos created the first art project called Alma the girl and began this place.

As a contemporary art museum, it has a variety of creative places for art. It has about ten pavilions scattered in nature and inside the red large main building Paleis Oranjestraat, it has three floors. Inside this gigantic structure, there’s a theater area, a café with delicious treats (that was my favorite), and exhibition halls.

Alma Löv Museum of Unexp Art began in 1998 and has had exhibitions with artists from across the world with a plethora of different backgrounds. Some of these artists are at the beginning of their careers, while others are well-seasoned. Throughout this museum, they have artistic quality and creativity at the most important with the art they show. Marc Broos ran Alma Löv for thirteen years and he made sure none of the projects ever became anonymous. In 2014, his daughter Stella Broos took over Alma Löv Musuem of Unexp Art and since then two essential items were added to the place. Now there’s a creative workshop for children and a permanent stage for concerts and events.

Once you first arrive, you’ll see a tree growing out of a chimney in the ground, a tiny red house that spins in circles as fast as you turn it, and one large statue of a leg. These are all outside scattered in the grassy area. While there’s those, you can go on a walk full of wonder through the forest, where every direction there are pieces of artwork.

Travel Cart

There’s one that I thought was heart wrenching but lovely. It was a traveling cart that looked abandoned in the forest. Inside there was a desk and it had recorded letters along with letters spread out. While I listened, I learned that it was a love story in Spanish and these letters were sent to lovers that were out of the grasps of the ones that they loved.

A Family-Friendly Experience

The museum’s immersive and engaging exhibits make it an ideal destination for families seeking an extraordinary outing. Children and adults alike can explore the wonder of art, sparking their imagination and curiosity. On top of that, there’s food offered at the cafe! So, it’s a great place for the whole family as a day outing. Since a lot of the artwork is outside, it makes it fun for any kid.

Misfit Wanders

I´m a kooky girl that likes to travel. I grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA. Then moved to Northern California for about 5 years. But now, it's going on 5 years living in Sweden with my hubby and our furbabies, plus our little boy and my mom has joined our crew! Over the pandemic time, it has been hard to travel. Thus, my travel blog had been at a stand still. I started going to a University and I had a baby. Now I'm on a different kind of adventure. But my family and I plan on traveling when we can still. Traveling is something I cherish. New adventures is what keeps me moving, that and a stubbornness. I have a weird sense of humor if you haven´t figured that out from my posts. My writing can be perplexing, but I like to tell stories, and the best way is from my own experiences. So sit back and relax, as you take a spin through my hikes or enjoy following my footsteps as I wander in different countries! Most of my writings will be focused on hikes and the outdoors in Sweden.
