Sunne's Cultural Heritage at Mårbacka

Our first stop in Sunne Värmland is Mårbacka, the childhood home of renowned Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf. When I first arrived at this spot, I was amazed at its beauty and how huge the spot is. Throughout the seasons, they have something going on here. You can stop by to pick apples with the family. Or wander here to enjoy the winter market. Besides that, there’s a museum where you can learn the history of the beloved author.

Immersing Ourselves in Nature at Rottneros Park

Next, we venture to Rottneros Park. This is a lovely place with an abundance of gardens. The first time I ventured here, I was left stunned by the beauty in every direction. We came when it was in full bloom and the flowers sprouted to life. Besides the flowers, there are statues scattered throughout the area. On top of that, this is a perfect place for kids since they have several play areas. From riding peddle carts to being a pirate on a wooden pirate ship. Another great thing about this town is that there are hiking trails all over! You can find some near Selma Spa, in the town, and on the way to Torsby up the hill, Tossebergsklätten that has unforgettable views! I couldn’t put my camera down the first time I wandered up here with my family. After walking around and taking in the views, I felt parched. Luckily, there’s a café up here that has delicious treats, tea and coffee. A perfect place for fika! Just be sure to check the times prior if you want to have a cup of tea at the café.

No visit to Sunne would be complete without trying out fika, a Scandinavian coffee break. They have a few nice places that you can relax and enjoy a warm brew of coffee. Venture to Café Villa Helios, an old house that once you walk in, you’ll be teleported through time. The walls are covered in artwork and the whole feel of the place rings from the past. But it has a welcoming atmosphere that invites everyone to wander inside.  Another great spot for a coffee break would be City Konditoriet. This is the more known café, and it can get quite crowded.
