Experience Nature Through my Eyes

My eyes lit up as I stared in awe at the fjords. Water lay in between tall mountains which gave me a feeling of peace within the nature. My exploration in Norway was filled with beauty and I was blown away when we were on our scenic road trip to go hiking. My hubby and I wandered many trails on this trip and each one had its own beauty! I highly suggest venturing to Norway, especially if you love to hike!

Since we live in Sweden, we’ve had the chance to venture here quite often and one of our many trips in Sweden was to Kebnekaise. Once we drove further up north, the trees began to get smaller, and herds of reindeer flocked to the roads. Besides that, we were amazed at the hidden beauty on the trail just to the base of Kebnekaise. While hiking towards the base, we found a lake and its water was so pristine. You could see right to the bottom. Plus, the snowcapped mountains reflected in the water as if it was a still picture. The image was beyond words, making this yet another trip that I highly recommend.

Sustainable Travel Practices

Something that I love about Scandinavia is that it’s known for its commitment to sustainability. This also extends to the tourism industry, and they have a plethora of eco-friendly accommodations and local restaurants that are delicious! In regards to being eco-conscious, there are plenty of ways to minimize your environmental impact while traveling. First off, stay at eco-lodges and boutique hotels that prioritize sustainability, opt for organic and vegetarian meals made with locally sourced ingredients, and support local businesses and artisans. Since you go about traveling in this kind of way, you’ll not only reduce your carbon footprint but also support the communities you visit.

When I travel, being surrounded by the locals, their customs and cultures is the greatest experience for me. Once we made it to the tiny local restaurant in Bergen, I was blown away by the beautiful views we had along with the piping hot delicious meal. The smells wafted to my nostrils, making my mouth water. My heart leapt with joy that I’m able to enjoy such a meal with an epic view.

Family-Friendly Adventures

Scandinavia is a paradise for families, with a wide range of activities to suit every age and interest. So, if you plan a Scandinavian family holiday, you won’t be disappointed at how welcoming they are towards families. Plus, if you’re a nature lover like me, then these countries are great places to venture with the whole family!

Venture to Norway

In Norway there are all kinds of activities depending on where you are in the country. Take on a thrilling husky sledding adventure or go whale watching along the coast. Or there are some of the best hiking trails there to experience. For example, there’s the Pulpit Rock, or the Troll Tongue.

Wander to Sweden

In Sweden, explore the charming streets of Stockholm’s Old Town (Gamla Stan) or visit the world’s first Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi. Besides that, the National Parks like Abisko are something you don’t want to miss! Take a journey to Abisko in any season for a whole new experience. During the winter, it’s time for the northern lights and in the other seasons, it’s a lovely place to explore and take in the beauty of the nature. Plus, Sweden has many wonderful places to explore. Like, go to the archipelagos in Stockholm or in Gothenburg. Don’t forget to explore Grönalund amusement park for all ages!

Explore Denmark

In Denmark, take a bike ride through the picturesque countryside or visit the Legoland theme park for a day of fun-filled excitement. Whatever your family’s interests, you’re sure to find plenty of adventures to enjoy together.

Take on Finland

In Finland, take on the breathtaking beauty of nature by exploring its vast forests, pristine lakes, and stunning national parks. Just like the other Scandinavian countries there’s a lot of eco-friendly activities. Such as hiking, canoeing, and wildlife watching, where you can spot reindeer, bears, and elusive lynx in their natural habitats. Experience the magic of the Northern Lights during winter or the midnight sun in summer, all while minimizing your environmental impact. There’s even Santa Claus’s Village, which any little would love!

Scandinavian Culture

Each one of these places are great for the Scandinavian family holidays. They all have one similar thing in high regard in their culture, and that’s family. It’s usual to see the whole family doing activities together or going on adventures together. Plus, in the winter, it’s common to see strollers parked outside of cafes with babies in them! When I learned this, my mouth dropped. Being from the states, this was the last thing that I would want to do. But it’s accepted in these countries and it’s a part of their culture.

Teaching Sustainability to the Next Generation

One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is an appreciation for the natural world and a sense of responsibility towards protecting it. With that in mind, you can use your Scandinavian family holiday as an opportunity to teach your kids about the importance of sustainability and the environment. Take them on nature walks where they can learn about local flora and fauna, participate in beach clean-ups to help preserve marine ecosystems, and visit eco-friendly attractions that promote conservation efforts. Check out Nordic Coastal Clean Up to learn more.

By instilling these values in your children, you’ll empower them to become lifelong lovers for the planet. Besides that, these experiences are well worth trying out since you get to enjoy being educated along with being surrounded by lovely nature.
