Outdoor activities in Sweden are perfect for people who love being outside because the country has beautiful mountains, dense woods, and clear lakes. This wonderland has something for every explorer, from exciting activities to peaceful nature retreats. Do not forget to bring your fishing rod and climbing boots. You are about to enjoy the beautiful outdoors in Sweden.
1. Hiking in the Wild
Take a hike through one of Sweden’s beautiful national parks or nature areas. As you climb above the Arctic Circle on the famous King’s Trail (Kungsleden), you’ll be surrounded by towering mountains and pristine glaciers that look like they belong in another world. For a more relaxing walk, check out the trails in Tyresta National Park. The old woods and lakes that look like mirrors make it a peaceful haven close to the busy city of Stockholm. You can also read about some of the most famous hikes here. This is one of my favorite things to do outside in Sweden!
2. Kayaking and Canoeing Adventures
In Sweden’s lakes and rivers, the water is very clear, so grab your paddle and go on a journey kayaking or canoeing. Glide along the calm waterways of Varmland, where beautiful forests and secret coves show off nature’s beauty. I wrote a book that will help you canoe in Sweden. Take a look here! This is another thing I like to do outside in Sweden!
It was exciting when we went out on our canoes for the first time. A friend of ours told us how to get there. That wasn’t true, though! Our six-hour trip turned into a twenty-four-hour trip! So, I really think you should look it up on a map ahead of time and make sure you bring a phone battery pack.

3. Fishing Expeditions
Cast your line into the huge seas around Sweden, which are known for having a lot of different kinds of fish. You can enjoy the peace and quiet of fishing in lakes or the thrill of fishing deep in the Baltic Sea. Sweden has a lot of different fishing options that will make your fishing trip memorable. People in Sweden like to go ice fishing outside, and some of our friends are really good at it! That means you can still fish even if it’s cold.
4. Camping in the Wilderness
You can enjoy the Swedish idea of “Allemansratten” (Everyman’s Right) and set up your tent in the middle of nature for up to two days. As you enjoy the peace and quiet of the wild, campfires crackle under the stars. Camping in Sweden is a great way to get close to nature, from the wild beauty of Lapland to the peaceful shores of the Stockholm archipelago.
When you’re in Sweden, you should camp out in the wild. Both my husband and I have done this in many places in Sweden. Find out more about it at The Ultimate Information for Wild Camping in Sweden. You can do this sport outside in almost any natural area in Sweden. That is, not in natural areas or national parks. There, they have set up places to camp.

5. Wildlife Encounters
Discover Sweden’s natural areas where you can meet native animals that will both humble and amaze you. In the far north, you can see beautiful reindeer that are owned by the Sami people but are free to roam. You might be able to see a moose in its natural environment if you go to Skuleskogen National Park. In Sweden’s wild places, keep an eye out for red foxes, beavers, and even the rare lynx.
Wildlife like deer, bears, and moose can often be seen in Varmland county, which means “nature county.” There’s a lot of wildlife in that county where I live, and I see it often. In my article, you can find out more about the animals you can see. You should go with a guide because this can be a dangerous thing to do outside in Sweden. When you meet wild animals, remember that you are dealing with them. They’re not friendly. Go to Värmland Moose Park if you want to see moose in person.
6. Biking Adventures
Get on a bike and ride through Sweden’s beautiful scenery. Explore the beautiful island of Oland, which has beautiful coastal paths and old sites to see. If you want an exciting ride, try mountain biking in Åre, which is known for its exciting descents and beautiful views. People who like to ride bikes love this place because it has so many tracks for all skill levels. There are places to stay near Tiveden National Park where you can even rent bikes. This makes the ride to the park and through the woods a lot of fun.
7. Winter Wonderland
As winter comes in Sweden, snowflakes gently brush against my nose. Even when this time of year arrives, Sweden is a great place to enjoy the great outdoors. Ski downhill through a winter wonderland in re, or glide across the peaceful cross-country ski tracks in Idre Fjall. Both are located in the same area. Try your hand at dog sledding in Lapland for an adventure like no other. There are a number of fantastic places to go skiing scattered across Sweden. You might even choose to go ice skating instead. Skating rinks in Stockholm can be found at a number of attractive locations throughout the city.
8. Rock Climbing Adventures
Climbers and others interested in the sport will find that Sweden has a wide variety of rock formations to tackle. Visit the climbing mecca of Bohuslan, where the imposing granite cliffs that overlook the North Sea will provide you with an experience that is both tough and rewarding. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced climber or a beginner wishing to put your talents to the test; Sweden’s scenery and variety of climbing routes will make you wish there were more opportunities for outdoor activities there.
9. Wildlife Safaris
Participate in a wildlife safari and get an up-close look at Sweden’s wondrous animals as you observe them in their natural environments. Join a local expert on a tour of Lapland to increase your chances of seeing a brown bear in the region’s deep forests and to witness the beautiful dance of the northern lights. Safaris in Sweden’s wilderness provide a unique and risk-free opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the natural world’s most captivating residents.
10. Foraging in the Forest
Foraging in the woods for wild berries and mushrooms is a time-honored pastime in Sweden. Join in on the fun! Find berries, mushrooms, and herbs by going on an adventure through the woods and meadows with knowledgeable locals who can lead the way. Foraging in Sweden is a pleasant way to connect with the land and experience the flavors of the season. From wild strawberries (smultron) and blueberries to chanterelles and porcini mushrooms, there is a wide variety of delicious foods to be found.
Berry Picking in Sweden
The activity that my whole family enjoys the most is going berry picking. The juicier the fruit, the more my son enjoys it. However, rather than putting them in our bucket, they wind up in his mouth, and I find myself doing the same thing. So while my son and I are busy snacking, my husband is the one who does the gathering.
